About

¡Hola!

My name is Arthur Wendorf. I have been teaching Spanish at the university level since I started my MA back in 2006 (and full time since getting my PhD from the University of Texas – Austin in 2014). Over the years I have taught classes face-to-face, fully online, as well as hybrid.

In my courses, I view my role as primarily that of providing support for my students. I want them to succeed! And I do everything in my power to help facilitate their success while keeping my standards for their achievement high.

My field of expertise is called: Applied, Technology-Enhanced, Spanish Second Language Acquisition. Basically, that means that what I study is how we can best use technology to help teach Spanish. I am particularly interested in the use of digital games.

Personally, my teaching philosophy is that learning a language works best when it is both fun and meaningful. But it is a lot of work too, and requires a lot of practice!

I learned a lot about how much practice it takes to learn Spanish while I lived in Chile for two years as a missionary!

I have also lived in Germany, as well as several different states in the US. And I have visited many other states, as well as Mexico, Costa Rica, and various European countries.

I have a large family, and I love to spend time with my wife and kids! We are especially fond of playing board games, video games, and Legos together!

Finally, I am also a maker and love to create not just video games (using Unity), but also 3D printing (with my Ender 3), and laser printing (with my public library‘s Glowforge).
